Mastering is the final stage in the production process. Among the most common processes are taking a mixed stereo file and enhancing the sound, correcting any frequency imbalances, applying stereo enhancement and bringing the loudness to a commercially acceptable level.

Providing individual stereo files for vocals, bass, drums, keys etc makes it possible to correct, enhance and change the overall balance of these elements in the mix, before proceeding with the mastering process.

Mastering
Professional mastering takes a great track and brings it to the same level of intelligibility, balance and power of other professionally mastered and distributed tracks. SLDP’s main focus, as an educational institution, is helping students and clients learn when a track is ready to be mastered. We offer a pre-master consultation and will request changes to the recording, production and/or mixing that we perceive to be integral to the quality of the final master. Simply put, unless a client insists, we don’t master songs that are not ready to be mastered.

Stem Mix + Mastering
“Fix it in the mix” is a common phrase used in the world of professional audio. Stem Mixing allows us to process individual groups of instruments – like bass, vocals, drums, etc – and otherwise correct, enhance and balance in a way that is not possible with a single stereo file prepared for mastering only. With the same consultation, SLDP can identify and recommend any changes in sound choice, recording, arrangement and production that will improve the mix and the final mastering.
